Cabbage Patch hat

Last month, a friend of mine asked me if I could make a "Cabbage Patch hat." After I told her I had no idea what she was talking about, she told me they were adorable and I had look them up. I went right to pinterest (of course) and saw what looked like a baby with yarn hair. The baby was wearing a Cabbage Patch hat. Just imagine the hair of one of the dolls on a baby's head. They are pretty funny to see.

I found the pattern on growsewhappy.wordpress.com. This pattern has a variety of sizes to choose from. I made the 3-6 month size. I was all ready to go and then I realized I didn't have enough yarn. (Ok, I have PLENTY of yarn,  but not enough of the right color.) I was going to make a brown hat, but I only had a partial skein. (The pigtails on the hat use up quite a bit of yarn.)

The next day, I picked up a skein of Red Heart Super Saver in "Coffee." Because this was a baby hat, it didn't take that long to make. I did however need to look up how to make a "Loop Stitch." On Cabbage Patch dolls some, if not all, of the hair on their head is made up of loops of yarn. I went on youtube and found an instructional video by June Gilbank. The stitch took some getting used to, but I eventually got the hang of it. I think I could make a Swiffer cover with the loop stitch and have it be a dust mop. Has anyone done that?

The hat turned out really well. I added two little pink bows to the pigtails. Too bad I don't have a little baby model to show it off. Maybe someday. <3
